Benoroya Winlock is now I-5 Innovation Park
Innovation Park is a "15 Minute City"
Innovation parks are scattered across the world. Usually they focus on technological R&D, often adjacent to an academic institute, and in reality an excuse to attract large number of tech businesses to locate together. There are some obvious benefits in having similar kinds of business close by, particularly if they can share knowledge and skills, or form an ecosystem of partners or suppliers (horizontal or vertical).
Innovation Parks are 15-minute cities…
Clusters of specialist businesses emerge. “A business cluster is a geographic concentration of interconnected businesses, suppliers, and associated institutions in a particular field. Clusters are considered to increase the productivity with which companies can compete, nationally and globally. In urban studies, the term agglomeration is used.”
Silicon Valley is the most obvious example, emerging in the hinterland of Stanford University, but eventually with high tech businesses sprawling across a vast area that used to be famous for little more than orange trees. Digital Media City in Seoul is a more planned example, a dedicated space for media, entertainment and gaming companies to live together. It includes conference and cultural centres, the Korean Film Academy, and companies like LG.
I-5 Innovation Park is centrally located in one of the fastest-growing cities in Washington State with
a population of over 2.6 million people within a 75 mile radius and access to the robust network
of major universities and colleges in both Washington and Oregon. The Internet and Washington
are one: broadband is widely available, and the state is investing heavily in expanding networks,
particularly in rural communities.
Washington leads the nation in its commitment to reducing its carbon footprint. The state
has committed itself to deriving 100% of its energy from clean, zero-carbon sources by 2045.
Washington’s network of hydroelectric power plants is the largest in the nation, allowing the state to
offer some of the lowest-cost energy in the U.S.
Global brands and startups are often right next to each other, and industries that seem to have
nothing in common readily join together to share ideas, perform groundbreaking R&D and develop
new products that disrupt the marketplace

Swedish regulators have opened a market abuse investigation into private equity group EQT after a controversial $2.7bn share sale by top executives. Shares in EQT fell 6 per cent on Friday morning after the Swedish Financial Supervisory Authority said it was looking into whether one of Europe’s largest private equity groups had violated market abuse regulations by failing to disclose insider information promptly. Several EQT shareholders have expressed anger over the decision by partners at the private equity company to sell $2.7bn of shares a year earlier than stated in a lock-up agreement.
